Carly-Faith conquers cancer
Our youngest daughter Carly-Faith was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a type of cancer affecting the retina. No one can really prepare your heart to hear that your child has cancer.
Before COVID-19 and stay-at-home orders, we were scheduled to be back in New Orleans. Had we been there, the closest place for treatment would have been Houston! Thankfully, we were home in Nashville and were able to immediately see a specialist at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt! Carly-Faith was placed under the care of one of the top research doctors and surgeons for this particular cancer, and this care team quickly became an extension of our family.
Our Family,Our Cause
After much discussion and prayer, we decided to move forward with surgery to remove Carly-Faith’s left eye only two days after her diagnosis. After weeks of awaiting test results, we received the good news: Carly-Faith’s cancer was removed in the nick of time and no chemotherapy would be needed! Today, our family is committed to dedicating time and resources to help educate and bring more awareness to Retinoblastoma and other cancers, and we will be matching every donation, dollar for dollar!
Together, our support has already begun making a difference for young patients with cancer. Donations to this campaign have helped fund:
- Additional opportunities to raise awareness for retinoblastoma
- Expansion of a National Cancer Institute study on retinoblastoma outcomes
- Testing of new agents for local treatment of retinoblastoma
- Psychology care for patients and families during their cancer journey.
But we’re not done yet – your support can help us reach the next milestone in retinoblastoma and childhood cancer care.
